Yesterday officially ended the RehAnkle project that we have been talking so much about in recent days. Thanks to this project, sponsored by the DIH-Hero initiative, we have been able to take a step forward in the use of robotic rehabilitation in patients with mobility problems in the ankle joint. It has been a hard and complex project, but it has been worth it because of the results obtained.

Among others, the implementation of a fruitful relationship with our project partners: Caixa Mágica Software, the Neural Rehabilitation Group of CSIC and the professionals of the Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos de Toledo. Within the project, Caixa Mágica, leader in Portugal in the Open Source software segment, has developed the entire control software layer of the device. The Neurorehabilitation Group of CSIC, as experts in the development of innovative methodologies to improve the quality of care and quality of life of people with disabilities, has contributed all its experience in the development of rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation strategies. The Hospital Nacional de Parapléjicos de Toledo has supervised and advised the experiments carried out with patients to obtain the results of medical validation. Finally, we, Technaid, have contributed all our knowledge in the design and development of hardware solutions for use in motor rehabilitation of patients with mobility problems.

Above all, we would like to thank the group of healthy and spinal cord injured patients who have collaborated with our validation study. Likewise, we would also like to thank all the medical staff of the hospital for the kindness shown during these tests. Finally, we would like to thank our DIH-HERO trainer, Mr. Michael Obach for his guidance and assistance throughout the project.

Finally, we would like to echo the fact that this project is funded by the European Commission through the DIH-Hero initiative with GA 825003. The partners in the project are Twente University, Eurecat, Istituto Italiano di Tecnología, Imperial College London, Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Tecnalia, German Aerospace Center (DLR), IMEC, ITechinic, Danish Technological Institue, Fraunhofer IPA, RWTH University Hospital Aachen, Politécnico di Milano, ETF Belgrade, ETHZurich, Fundacja Rozwoju Kardiochirurgii and CEA.

Thank you all for your effort and support. We are moving forward.
